Eastbourne residents, businesses and visitors are being asked for their feedback and views on content for a proposed new pedestrian signage scheme that will encompass way finding, distance markers and heritage information.
The Borough Council are working on a scheme that will see new signage placed at key points around Eastbourne identifying major landmarks and attractions and using the signs to illustrate walking routes and nearby locations. The new signage will also highlight Eastbourne’s heritage and act as a useful information point for visitors.
A short questionnaire will run online starting this week until 29 April asking for feedback on the proposed locations, the preferred colour scheme and for views on what essential information should be included on the signs.
Eastbourne Borough Council Tourism Development Manager Annie Wills said “We have been working for some time on developing a new signage scheme for Eastbourne that can work across the town, bringing together the seafront, town centre and other key locations. We are now at an exciting stage where we have come up with a proposed scheme and proposed locations but would like to hear from residents, businesses and visitors about exactly what information their ideal signage scheme would include.
“With so much to do in Eastbourne and with such a wealth of heritage on our doorstep, we have the opportunity to pull all of this information together and I really hope that people take the opportunity to tell us their views and help us deliver an effective scheme that meets the needs of visitors and the local community.”
The proposed new signs would be double sided in either a black and gold or blue and yellow colour scheme and contain maps, key information and distance markers.
Feedback will remain anonymous and once the consultation ends, it will be collated and used to shape a final signage scheme for installation in autumn 2011.
