Ukelele Group Join Magnificent Band Line Up

26 April 2011

Tunbridge Wells Ukelele Night Thing will be joining the packed band line up for Magnificent Motors when it returns to Eastbourne this weekend entertaining thousands of visitors at its new Princes Park location.

Eastbourne’s free motoring spectacular takes place this weekend from 30 April – 1 May and this year is moving to a bigger location at Princes Park promising more space for more exhibitors than ever before.

Showcasing a range of vehicles through the ages, organisers Eastbourne Borough Council have put together a jam-packed musical soundtrack for the weekend that includes more than 20 ukelele players taking to the stage performing popular numbers from their songbook such as Maggie May, 500 Miles and Hey Jude.

The brainchild of Dave Kinder, The Tunbridge Wells Ukulele Night Thing meets every fortnight at the High Brooms Tavern in Tunbridge Wells and is inviting other ukulele players to pop down and join in!

Eastbourne Borough Council Events Development Manager Mike Marchant said “We are very excited to move Magnificent Motors to the eastern seafront this year to a more spacious location at Princes Park. We have a fantastic range of exhibitors set to take part, including cars that are more than 100 years old! The impressive vehicle display combined with a real variety of bands on the live stage mean Eastbourne is on track for a spectacular weekend and I’d encourage everyone to head for Princes Park and make the most of the entertainment on offer!”

Other performances over the weekend will come from The Wedding Band fronted by Matt Healey and the Tourle brothers with tried and tested songs for singing and dancing along, The Life Gospel Choir, Howlin’ Blues, indie band Audio 6 and the newly formed Cold Shot.

Attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year, Magnificent Motors 2011 will include cars dating back to the 1800s with an 1897 Henriod Phaeton, a 1902 Locomobile Spindle Seat and a 1909 Brush Runabout all set to attend this weekend.

Also showcasing military and commercial vehicles, American saloons, classic buses and steam traction engines, visitors will be able to browse the automobile timeline laid out in front of them.

With the event moving to Princes Park this year, visitors from the town centre and western seafront will be able to hop aboard a classic bus to reach the event site and buses will be running regularly throughout the two days.

The weekend event will be boosted this year by the Royal Wedding celebrations adding an extra public holiday to the weekend on Friday 29 April and visitors are invited to bring a picnic and watch the royal nuptials on a 25 square metre big screen. Picnickers will be able to watch Kate and Wills tie the knot, join in with traditional games such as tug of war and musical chairs, and come dressed in their best red, white and blue regalia to be crowned fancy dress winner!

Eastbourne will also be welcoming the return of the French & Continental Market to the western seafront between the Pier and Bandstand, Towner will host the finale weekend of the East Sussex Open, and the traditional afternoon concerts get underway at Eastbourne Bandstand. Events will also be taking place around the town for this year’s Eastbourne Festival.
