Eastbourne Chefs Wanted for Fiesta Food Theatre

13 April 2011

Eastbourne restaurants and chefs are being invited to demonstrate their signature dish as part of Food Theatre at the town’s brand new event, Fiesta, from 28-29 May.

Eastbourne Fiesta is another new addition to the packed events calendar for the UK’s sunniest destination and will take place on the Western Lawns bringing together a fusion of cultures from around the world in a free two day event. Visitors can enjoy live music, sample ales in a mini beer festival, get on their feet and join in with dance sessions, and watch live cookery demonstrations in Food Theatre.

Thai Terre will be demonstrating Thai cookery on the Sunday of Fiesta but organisers Eastbourne Borough Council are putting out a call to budding young chefs and experienced restaurateurs to use the event to show off their signature dish.

Eastbourne Borough Council Events Development Manager Mike Marchant said “We are very excited to launch the new Eastbourne Fiesta, something a bit different for Eastbourne, which will really bring together the mass of cultural activity on our doorstep. Eastbourne Cultural Communities Network (ECCN) do a great job at joining many of the town’s cultural clubs and societies together and we are pleased to be working alongside them to stage a packed weekend at the end of May.

“Fiesta Food Theatre presents an exciting opportunity for both amateur and experienced chefs to cook live in front of an audience and with TV shows like Masterchef so popular at the moment; I hope that we have a great take up.”

Those who can’t wait until October for the return of Eastbourne Beer Festival can come and whet their whistle at the Fiesta Bar. A limited selection of local cask ales will be racked and cooled for Fiesta visitors to enjoy as well as cask ciders from The National Cider Collection. Ale lovers will have the chance to vote for their favourite in the Beer of the Festival awards as well as take the Mystery Ale Taste and sample one of the ales blind, both for the chance to win tickets to the Beer Festival this autumn.

Other Fiesta highlights will include a mini Pride with BourneOut taking to the stage and introducing Miss Fonda Cox Hostess and Drag Queen, transsexual magician Emma, and Ace Dancers, an evening barn dance on the Saturday, and the chance to try new fitness craze Zumba with an energetic master class.

The popular Italia in Piazza Market is also returning to Eastbourne seafront from 28-29 May selling authentic Italian produce and the Jaguar South Downs Run returns on Sunday 28 May bringing a display of over 100 Jaguars and Daimlers to Eastbourne as they complete their route from Chichester.

A jam-packed line up of bands will provide the ultimate soundtrack to the weekend from the Fiesta stage with visitors invited to enjoy music from across the globe, including Smugg Jam, Ragati String Band, ‘Cut the Shuffle’, Pentacle Drummers, and many more!
