Eastbourne to Crown Will and Kate Doubles

Picnic in the Park Royal Wedding

28 April 2011

Eastbourne is preparing to crown its winning Will and Kate doubles tomorrow at its special Picnic in the Park Royal Wedding celebrations after attracting dozens of entries to the town’s lookalike competition.

The competition, which was run through Eastbourne’s official destination website VisitEastbourne.com and its facebook page, attracted entries from all over the country vying for the title of best lookalike giving judges a difficult decision in choosing the winners.

Christina Spencer, from Brighton, has been chosen as the best double for Kate Middleton and Ian Whitehorn, who lives in Eastbourne and was put forward by his sister, has been picked as the winning double for Will.

Tourism Development Manager Annie Wills said “I was really surprised by the level of interest in our lookalike competition and the entries, for Kate in particular, were of a high standard making it quite a tough decision! We are delighted to invite our winning doubles to the Royal Wedding celebrations at Princes Park tomorrow where they will receive their crowns after visitors watch the nuptials of the real Will and Kate on the big screen!”

Princes Park in Eastbourne will stage Picnic in the Park tomorrow, a chance for visitors to bring a picnic and watch the Royal Wedding on a 25 square metre big screen before live music, dancing and competitions in the afternoon.

As well as watching the winning lookalikes being crowned, visitors can also compete for prizes of their own by wearing their best red, white and blue regalia for title of best fancy dress, or take part in traditional games including tug of war and musical chairs.

Rocking soul band EG Riley will take to the stage at 2pm to entertain the crowds followed by classic rock funk and blues band The Mojo Makers at 4pm. There will be giant bouncy castles to keep the children entertained as well as the chance to purchase food and drink on site.
