Get Ready for the 2010 Kingsmere Fun Day!

2 September 2010

Kingsmere Fun Day: Sunday 5th September, 12.00 – 3.00pm Conqueror Hall, Harold Drive

It's time again for the annual Kingsmere fun day; the event is open to all local families and children and the entertainment starts at 12pm on Sunday 5 September, at Conquerors Hall.

As well as a range of fun activities, this year the event will also be celebrating the completion of a £250,000 sports facility and play area. The entertainment will include:

  • Live music

  • A bouncy castle and Waterzorbing;

  • A mini funfair;

  • A free barbeque;

  • A raffle with a top prize of £150 make-over;

  • A netball tournament, and;

  • Uncle Brumble, to keep the kids entertained.

To celebrate the improvements, local Liberal Democrat MP Steven Lloyd and the Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Carolyn Heaps will be burying a time capsule containing a variety of items chosen by the Kingsmere youth group.

The new sports and play facilities at Kingsmere are part of a project aimed at working with local people to improve their environments called Green Spaces for People run by Places for People - a housing regeneration group, which manages properties in the area. The local residents association the Kingsmere Community Association (KCA), Places for People and Eastbourne Council have worked closely together and more than £250,000 has been invested by the Big Lottery Fund. The KCA has also successfully attracted more than £8,000 of match funding and Amicus Horizon, a local housing provider, has also supported the improvements.

Green Spaces Project Manager Jane Pelly said “I’m delighted at the completion of the Green Spaces for People project at Kingsmere. The area looks great and the new facilities will help to enhance the lives of local people. It’s great to be combining the completion of the project with the annual Kingsmere fun day and giving people an opportunity to try out the new play area and sport facilities. We look forward to welcoming lots of people on Sunday.”

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for the Community, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “We are very excited to open the newly created green spaces on the Kingsmere Estate this weekend and provide a fantastic new facility for residents. The local community have been involved throughout the project, sharing their ideas for what they would like to see and I am delighted that all the hard work has paid off to provide new green areas and open spaces to enjoy.”
