St Wilfrid’s Christmas Magic Weekend 2010

Christmas in Little Chelsea
8 September 2010

New attractions and activities make up an exciting programme for this year’s St Wilfrid’s Christmas Magic Weekend (3, 4 and 5 December) in Eastbourne town centre.

Over £8,000 was raised for St Wilfrid’s Hospice by Christmas Magic in 2009 and thousands of shoppers were entertained throughout the town centre. Organisers are aiming to beat that figure this year and create a real town-wide community feeling during the course of the weekend.

Frances, Lewis, Fundraising Director at St Wilfrid’s Hospice said: “This year’s programme is undoubtedly bigger and better than ever before and reflects the current ambitions of St Wilfrid’s to build a bigger better Hospice to meet the growing demand for our specialist services. So come and have festive fun and don’t forget to tell Father Christmas what you’ll be wishing for!”

This year’s festivities start with ‘Little Christmas’ in Little Chelsea on Friday evening, 3rd December. Following its success last year, both Grove Road and South Street will be closed to traffic once more and the area filled with attractions and entertainment for the whole family, including festive food and drink, choir singing and live music. The specialist shops and boutiques will also remain open for a spot of late-night shopping.

Sovereign FM, your local radio station will be in town throughout the weekend, beginning in Little Chelsea on the Friday evening. On Saturday and Sunday at Bankers Corner in the town centre their top presenters will be on hand to entertain the crowds with fun, games and competitions along with the best music. There will be entertainment from local choirs, schools and bands on the stage and at the Railway Station and Enterprise Shopping Centre. Mall performers will keep you entertained throughout the weekend in the Arndale Centre.

The Enterprise Centre will be serving their traditional mulled wine and mince pies to all shoppers and Father Christmas will be greeted by the magical sound of the Sovereign Singers singing Christmas Carols as he opens his grotto giving free toys to every child who visits. They will also have their wonderful reindeer back again from 11am on the Saturday and of course the amazing unique shopping experience with over 50 shops to help you find that special gift or tasty treat for Christmas.

Once again, local businesses will compete in the Fancy Dress Competition with many of the town centre shops and businesses getting into costume and the festive spirit to add fun and sparkle to the town centre over the weekend event.

New for 2010:

  • Father Christmas and reindeer parade starts from the Cavendish Hotel at around 10.15am then through the town to the Enterprise Centre where they will be from 11am to 2pm.

  • Fantastic traditional Victorian style Funfair which will be coming to Langney Road with games, rides and fun for all the family. Try them all and see which you enjoy the most.

  •  Continental Market which will include over 50 stalls selling delicious local Christmas goodies and present ideas. Festively dressed, this market will add to the festive feel of the event and is open each day and will run from Bankers Corner to TJ Hughes so make sure you don’t miss any of the great offers available.

  • Entertainment with a special stage area sponsored by Sterling Motors will be outside TJ Hughes in Terminus Road and means more bands and entertainers will be performing than ever before.
