Bigger and Better Partnership to Help Boost Local Economy

1 November 2010

The Worklessness Group and the Eastbourne Credit Crunch Task Group have joined together to maximise their impact in supporting the local community and economy.

The new Group, Enterprising Eastbourne, met for the first time on 28 October to celebrate past achievements. These achievements included the launch of the East Sussex Credit Union in Eastbourne as well as the provision of credit crunch advice and guidance through the Council’s website, local press and leaflets and posters.

A new Action Plan will be formulated over the coming months which will include exploring initiatives such as promoting Eastbourne as a Solar City and opening a one stop shop in the town centre for residents to access job advice.

The latest Economy Snapshot of Eastbourne, released at the event, highlights that the number of job seekers in Eastbourne has been declining all year with tourism remaining strong. Public sector cuts could undermine any growth but Enterprising Eastbourne will work closely with partners to support unemployed people in their search for employment while encouraging local job creation.

In a statement, Councillor Margaret Bannister, the Chair of the Enterprising Eastbourne Group said, “Both Groups needed to evolve to meet the needs of the changing national and local economy. The event was encouraging; public, private and third sector organisations are all behind making Eastbourne a great place to live, work and visit in order to boost the local economy.”
