Mayor Remembers

Poppies

5 November 2010

The Mayor of Eastbourne will attend a variety of remembrance events during the next week including some that she has organised.

Her busy week started on Sunday when she attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Congress Theatre, along with local ladies that have loved ones serving, or who have previously served, with the Armed Forces.

The Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Carolyn Heaps says, “It is a most poignant time to remember Troops and those who have been injured or lost their lives during conflicts both past and present.  I feel privileged to be joining the Eastbourne Combined Ex-Services Association at the Festival of Remembrance, and hope that the people of Eastbourne, both young and old, will join us for the Remembrance Parade and Service on Sunday 14 November, at the Eastbourne War Memorial roundabout.”

On Thursday 11 November the Mayor will attend a remembrance service at Hampden Park War Memorial, which is situated in the park across from the play area near the café.  All are welcome.

On Saturday she will be meeting the many poppy sellers around the town who work tirelessly every year to raise much needed funds for the Royal British Legion, supporting both old and young ex-service men and women.

The Remembrance Service and Parade takes place on the morning of Sunday 14 November and the Mayor will attend with the town’s MP, Councillors, and representatives from the Armed forces and local voluntary groups.

The service is open to all and is held at the Town’s War Memorial commencing at 10.40am.  Following the service the Mayor will take a salute from all the armed forces and voluntary groups in attendance as they march past.

Later the same day, the Mayor will be at Butts Brow for the Remembrance Service at the Ruthless Memorial.  This service starts at 3.00pm.
