Christmas Open Houses Double Weekend Extravaganza

Christmas Artists Open Houses
22 November 2010

Eastbourne’s wealth of creative talent are opening their homes to the public again this Christmas as the popular Artists Open Houses returns being run over two weekends by popular demand.

Next weekend from 27-28 November and again from 4-5 December to coincide with the Christmas Magic Weekend, visitors and residents will be able to view and buy a wide range of local artwork at over 50 open houses and studios around the town.

With many of the artists taking part creating unique Christmas gift ideas including paintings, photographs, jewellery, textiles, ceramics, stained glass and more, the weekends offer a unique opportunity for festive shopping with a difference.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “It is fantastic news that the Christmas Artists Open Houses are back again this year and even better that we have two weekends to take in all of the work by artists on our doorstep. There is such a variety of artwork to view and the Open Houses initiative is a great way to showcase what diverse and brilliant talent there is in Eastbourne.”

This year’s Open Houses Weekends will feature a number of group shows taking place too, including the first exhibition from the newly formed Eastbourne Painters. The exhibition will include work by Ann Johnson who had work accepted for the Royal Academy Summer Show this year.

Elsewhere The Eastbourne Group of Artists are showing their work at the Casson Gallery in Meads bringing together an eclectic mix of colourful paintings, prints and mixed media works.

Eastbourne’s new Bistro restaurant, Printers, will be showcasing work by Sheena Bourn and Margaret Turton, featuring paintings of the Pier and presents designed with a local touch.

With several Eastbourne artists also offering their artwork for sale through VisitEastbourne.com, there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of locally inspired gifts this Christmas.

For more information on the Open Houses Weekends visit the Eastbourne Artists website or pick up a brochure from the Tourist Information Centre.
