Artists Apply Now for 2011 East Sussex Open

East Sussex Open - exhibit
8 November 2010

Applications are now open for the 2011 East Sussex Open offering artists in the region the chance to see their works on display at Eastbourne’s award-winning gallery Towner.

2011 will be the second year of the popular open submission exhibition showcasing the work of East Sussex artists and will be launched to coincide with the Eastbourne Festival, and will be running from 2 April – 2 May.

Attracting 275 entries for the inaugural exhibition that took place earlier in 2010, Towner hope to receive even more entries for the 2011 East Sussex Open giving the judges a really tough decision when it comes to picking the final list of exhibitors.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism Cllr Neil Stanley said “I want to encourage as many artists as possible to take the opportunity to apply for the 2011 East Sussex Open and get the chance to see their work on display at our wonderful gallery. This year’s exhibition was really popular and resulted in a fantastic showcase of the amazing and diverse talent that the region has to offer with the work of 31 artists on display, including paintings, installations, sculptures and photographs.

“We received brilliant feedback from visitors who enjoyed seeing what East Sussex artists have to offer and hope to build on this year’s success in 2011. With Café Projects also launched this season to showcase artists from the region, Towner is committed to not only bringing top international exhibitions to Eastbourne, but to making the most of the creative talent on our doorstep.”

East Sussex artists can apply now for the chance to have their work picked and exhibited in the vast gallery space that Towner offers, with a total of 668 square metres and a ceiling 4.5m high committed to the exhibition next spring.

Interested artists must complete an application form to include images and details of up to five pieces of work that they would like to be considered together with a CV and Artist’s Statement before 5 January 2011.

For more information and to download an application form go to the East Sussex Open web page or call Towner on 01323 434667.
