Jaguars First to Run New South Downs National Park

24 May 2010

The UK’s sunniest place is getting ready to welcome dozens of Jaguars to its seafront at the end of the month as the new Jaguar South Downs Run is the first motoring event to drive across the National Park.

On Sunday 30th May members of the Jaguar Enthusiast’s Club from all over the UK will take part in their first South Downs Run covering a route that begins at Arundel and drives through picturesque villages in the National Park before pulling up on Eastbourne seafront.

Visitors can look forward to admiring up to 70 Jaguar models charting the past few decades with Caffyns of Eastbourne adding the very latest 2010 XJ Saloon to the fine display as they park on the Western Lawns.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “Eastbourne is very pleased to be welcoming the new Jaguar South Downs Run event to the town and excited that we will be hosting the vehicles as they end their scenic drive. The seafront will offer a fantastic display of Jaguars dating as far back as the 70s and as the UK’s sunniest place, it will make a great opportunity for visitors to join the Jaguar Enthusiasts and enjoy an alfresco picnic.

“Voted the UK’s Most Holiday-Friendly Town by Virgin Money Travel Insurance last week, the Bank Holiday weekend has plenty more going on around the town and offers the perfect opportunity for visitors to come and experience our award-winning resort for themselves!”

The Jaguar Enthusiasts including the iconic E-Type, the Mk2 saloons famous from the Inspector Morse TV series, and sports models, will begin their journey at Arundel passing through beautiful Sussex countryside including Storrington, Hurstpierpoint, Lewes, Glynde, East Dean, and Birling Gap before finishing their journey at Eastbourne.

Ending their drive on the Western Lawns about midday opposite England’s only 5-star seaside hotel, The Grand, Eastbourne seafront will provide the ultimate setting for a luxurious afternoon.

With the Bank Holiday weekend offering plenty more activity around Eastbourne including a Beatles Tribute Night at the Bandstand on Friday evening promising 60s nostalgia, Italia in Piazza Market bringing a taste of the continental to the seafront promenade on Sunday and Monday, and a Funfair for the whole of the half-term week at Princes Park keeping the children entertained, Eastbourne certainly makes a busy destination for visitors looking for a Bank Holiday break.
