12 May 2010 The UK’s sunniest place is getting ready to welcome over 1,000 cheerleaders to town as the British Cheerleading Association chooses Eastbourne for their next annual Southern Classic Competition.
The British Cheerleading Association have chosen the south coast resort of Eastbourne as the venue for their annual competition in 2010 promising a significant boost to the town’s economy.
Devonshire Park Centre will host 2,000 competitors and spectators in teams from across the south this November, with cheerleaders battling it out in front of friends and family to win those all important first place trophies.
An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson said “It is fantastic news that we have managed to secure such a well attended and highly regarded event like this at the Devonshire Park Centre and I’m sure it goes some way to reflecting the recent investment that Eastbourne’s main conference venue has received. It is also brilliant news for all of our conference members that we can secure events like this and I would like to thank our accommodation providers for their commitment and continued support for Eastbourne Conference Bureau.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming all of the teams to Eastbourne and I am sure that having hundreds of young cheerleaders in town will definitely confirm that Eastbourne is changing its image and appealing to a younger market.”
With 18 conferences taking place in Eastbourne this year, the resort’s Conference Bureau received this latest win after exhibiting at International Confex at Earls Court earlier this year.
Using its status as the sunniest place in the UK and promoting its versatile conference centre, the Conference Bureau have secured an event that will recreate scenes from cheerleading competitions made famous in Hollywood movies during recent years.
The two day event will use most of the rooms at the Devonshire Park Centre including the Congress Theatre, Congress Suite, Floral Hall and brand new Towner Art Gallery.
And with an entourage of family and friend supporters travelling with the competitors to Eastbourne, the Southern Classic Competition will promise thousands of bednights at local hotels, filling the accommodation during the quieter winter season.
David Veal from the British Cheerleading Association said “We are looking forward to bringing our Southern Classic to Eastbourne on 6th and 7th November and are excited about using the Devonshire Park Centre for the very first time. The facilities at the centre are excellent and will mean that we will be able to showcase the best that Cheerleading has to offer in Britain. We will be using the impressive Congress Theatre and Floral Hall for both our cheer and dance competitions at the same time. We hope that many local people will come and visit to see what cheerleading is really all about.”
This latest win comes as Eastbourne Conference Bureau starts its third year under the Conference Membership Scheme, funded through a group of local hotels and businesses that benefit from the conference industry in Eastbourne.
With member accommodation benefiting by allocating rooms directly for conference delegates; events like these ensure that bed nights are booked with hotels and guesthouses all year round.
