Meads councillors have used £700 from their ward budget to help more than just the residents in their ward. The money is going towards two projects run by the Leaf Hall Trust and the Royal Project.
Mead Ward Councillor, Nigel Goodyear says, “We are pleased to be able to support RegenerART and the Leaf Hall Trust; two initiatives that are not only directly adding to the regeneration of Devonshire, a fundamental aim of the Royal Project, but who are worthy recipients of aid in a time of economic difficulty and are contributing in a way that will benefit the town as a whole.”
Architects plans are being drawn up to create a full picture of the Leaf Hall. The trustees then plan to submit the new plans to the environmental health department for an entertainments license with the aim of getting permission to open the building as a community art centre and as a place for entertainment and education events and a public meeting place.
Gina Leonard from the Leaf Hall trust says, “The money and Councillor Goodyear’s help have enabled the Trust to move forward in its plans to turn the Leaf Hall into a vibrant and creative community space suitable for all ages.”
The remainder of the money will be used for materials for RegenerART, a working party of the Royal Project which is putting local artists work into empty shop windows.
