Eastbourne Makes Elite Destination for Speedway Action

March 24 2010

Speedway racing at Arlington is a truly international affair and this season the Lifestyle Eagles will be working with Eastbourne Tourism to promote the town and its thrilling short track racing to visitors all over the country.

With March welcoming the start of their 2010 season with fixtures against Peterborough and Swindon, the previous Knockout Trophy Cup winners will be facing teams from across the UK between now and September. The Eastbourne Eagles are looking forward to a tough season ahead coming up against teams such as Lakeside, Coventry and Poole, and Eastbourne Borough Council will be working with the Speedway team to promote the fixtures to away fans and encourage new visitors to the resort.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said “We are very excited to be working in partnership with Eastbourne Speedway again in 2010 and use the opportunity presented by this sporting league to promote Eastbourne to potential new visitors up and down the country. With the Lifestyle Eagles facing teams from different regions in the UK and with a packed season of home fixtures, Eastbourne has the chance to encourage away visitors to come to the resort and promote our town to a brand new audience.”

The most exciting form of short track racing in the world - thrills and spills galore, Speedway racing offers an adrenaline-fuelled experience for a stay in Eastbourne.

Eastbourne’s Speedway team compete in the Elite League, the highest level of racing in Europe and with national press often covering the success of the south coast team on their 500cc bikes with no brakes, tourism bosses at Eastbourne are keen to maximise on this marketing potential.

Always looking at ways to market Eastbourne to new visitors and add to the four million that already visit the East Sussex resort each year, VisitEastbourne.com has enjoyed similar success in its partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club.

Setting up special offer packages bookable online from VisitEastbourne.com including match ticket and overnight stay, the football breaks have generated over £1,000 in bookings already this season.

VisitEastbourne.com is now looking to set up similar offers and packages with Eastbourne Speedway team to encourage away fans to watch the fixtures in Eastbourne and stay over too.

With several of the fixtures also being broadcast live on Sky TV, Eastbourne will be shown to visitors across the country as a major sporting destination.
