9 March 2010 The UK’s sunniest resort is getting ready for a packed week of events and special offers to celebrate British Tourism Week from 15-21 March including taking the seaside destination to London Olympia for the Best of Britain and Ireland (BoBI).
2010 is the fourth year of British Tourism Week, a seven-day celebration of the UK tourism industry, and the south coast resort of Eastbourne has a packed week of events and special offers to entice visitors.
From a spring star watch using some of the country’s largest telescopes at The Observatory Science Centre and a four-wheeled ride along the seafront with Ride N Joy’s quadricycles to an English tradition at the country’s only 5-star seaside hotel or an afternoon of sporting action, Eastbourne will be highlighting its diverse tourism product to visitors old and new.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said “We always have plenty going on in Eastbourne to attract visitors to our award-winning resort, but British Tourism Week provides the ideal opportunity for us to celebrate our fabulous accommodation and attractions as the whole country comes together to recognise the value of tourism to Britain. We are very excited to be taking Eastbourne to exhibit at London Olympia for the Best of Britain and Ireland travel trade show this year, and hope we will continue to attract new visitors to the four million that we already receive each year.”
British Tourism Week aims to raise awareness of the size, value and importance of Britain’s £114 billion visitor economy and culminates in a four day tourism showcase from 17-20 March at London’s Olympia.
For the first time this year, Eastbourne will be exhibiting at the country’s biggest ever exhibition of British Tourism with a stand at BoBI and visitors and tour operators will have the chance to discover more about the East Sussex resort as well as enter a prize draw to win a Powerboat Adventure courtesy of Sussex Voyages.
Other attractions are joining in the British Tourism Week celebrations too with Ride N Joy offering an early taste of Easter with free Easter eggs for children hiring a quadricycle, while Eastbourne Borough FC welcome travelling fans as they take on Grays Athletic at Priory Lane.
Eastbourne’s accommodation providers are adding to the festivities too with special offers for British Tourism Week, including a complimentary room upgrade for those booking two nights or more at the 5-star Grand Hotel, while a three-night stay at the Hydro Hotel will cost just £135 per person including breakfast and a three-course dinner in the Crystal Restaurant.
With new research by BDRC Continental indicating that 70% of Brits will take a UK break in 2010, Eastbourne will be sending a special edition British Tourism Week e-newsletter to more than 9,000 subscribers through VisitEastbourne.com to encourage visitors to choose Eastbourne as their staycation destination.
