Backing Young Eastbourne

3 March 2010

Eastbourne Borough Council is backing the town’s younger generation as it pledges its support to the Government’s ‘Backing Young Britain’ campaign.

A cross-Government campaign, ‘Backing Young Britain’ is targeted at businesses, public sector organisations and the voluntary sector. It aims to encourage employers and organisations to provide more opportunities for young people aged 16-24 who are seeking jobs, work experience or to develop their skills.

The Council is proud to be backing this campaign and is encouraging other local businesses, public sector organisations and voluntary organisations to do the same.

In a statement, Councillor Bannister, the Chair of the Eastbourne Credit Crunch Task Group said, “Times are tough for young people who are leaving school or full-time education. They are the future of our workforce and it’s vital that they get the help they need now, to find a job, get training, or build their work skills and experience.”

Eastbourne Borough Council meets the criteria to become a supporter due to offering a number of work experience placements across the Council, engages in a number of work related activities for students and are participating in the Future Jobs Fund scheme by providing a total 48 six month job contracts for those who are long term unemployed.

The Council also recognises the importance of strenghtening their commitment to the ‘Backing Young Britain’ campaign’s aims in future.
