16 June 2010 Visitors to the town centre can stop off and pick up top tips on recycling, reduction, reuse, food waste and renewable energy next week as the Council hosts a two day event as part of National Recycling Week.
Eastbourne Borough Council will be in the pedestrian area of Eastbourne Town Centre on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 June from 11.00am – 3.30pm with experts on hand to give out useful advice and information.
From ordering Recycling Boxes and applying for the Free Green Garden Waste service to finding out about home composting, shoppers will be able to get useful information to help reduce their carbon footprint.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Steve Wallis said “We are very pleased to be hosting this event to mark National Recycling Week and spread the word to Eastbourne residents about the importance of recycling and waste awareness. We will be working with a number of partners including the Community Chef from County Council so there will be plenty of information and advice available, including some great recipes to help cut down food waste.”
The Waste Awareness Team will be available to take orders for Recycling Boxes and applications for the Free Green Garden Waste service and answer recycling queries.
They will be joined by the Compost Doctors who can offer advice and discounts on home composting, wormeries, water butts and kitchen composters.
There will also be a display of furniture and bicycles, which have been refurbished by Furniture Now and information on how to join their repair and refurbishment courses.
The Community Chef from East Sussex County Council will be in the town centre on Friday too, demonstrating how to reduce food waste with lots of mouth-watering, simple recipes for left over food as part of the Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
Those interested in solar panels, insulation and energy grants will be able to visit the Energy Initiatives Team who can give lots of useful information on ways to keep homes insulated while helping the environment at the same time.
There will also be performances from Ratton Secondary School’s Stomp Band on Thursday from 12-2pm, showing how they make music from rubbish, while there will be an interactive Recycling Chain artwork by Ratton Secondary School on display on Friday.
