30 June 2010 Extreme is getting ready to make a splash on the south coast this summer as Formula Future bring their powerboat national championship to Eastbourne’s free extreme sports festival.
UK Formula Future Offshore Race Club (FFORC) will set off from Sovereign Harbour Marina and race along the Eastbourne shoreline with Extreme visitors watching from the beachfront as the powerboats complete round four of their national championship.
The free festival celebrating the best in wind, water and air sports promises a bumper line up when it returns from 17-18 July, including parkour, kitesurfing, zorbing, windsurfing and more!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “Eastbourne Extreme guarantees an exciting weekend this July with plenty of action along the seafront including national events. Not only do we have the powerboats completing one leg of their championship, but we also have the UK Official Battle Slalom Competition attracting some of the top freestyle slalom skaters from all over the country and Europe too. With live music, VW Camper Vans, children’s rides and refreshment stalls, Eastbourne Extreme makes a fantastic day out for all the family.”
Extreme offers the perfect opportunity for the UK’s sunniest place to show off its brand new Skate Park, boasting super fast ramps and half pipes that are unique to Eastbourne.
Skaters, BMXers and skateboarders can practice their stunts at the Skate Park, or for those looking for something more genteel, join the Breakfast Skate to Holywell and back each morning or enjoy a skaters’ picnic with Ride N Joy Quadricycle Hire on Fisherman’s Green.
Champion windsurfer Nik Baker and Ian Kraft return with the ION Man Contest for 2010 but are upping the ante this year with windsurfers invited to take part in a series of challenges to bag the ION Man trophy.
Combining a fun series of tests and competitions, ION Man entrants will have to face rounds in windsurf racing, slalom, stand-up-paddleboard racing, relay and a GPS challenge, to test their endurance and find out if they can take the title.
New for 2010, Knockhatch Adventure Park are bringing mountain board ramps to Extreme offering the chance to try this growing new sport.
With refreshment stalls lining the seafront, live music on the Extreme stage in a Battle of the Bands competition final, and children’s rides at Fort Fun, Extreme offers plenty of opportunities for visitors to stop off and soak in the festival atmosphere.
And for those who prefer to leave the action to the experts, then Extreme really is the perfect event to kick back and chill out at. The VW Bus Stop Tour is back for the second year in 2010 as colourful VW Camper Vans line the seafront on Sunday bringing an authentic surfer’s paradise to Eastbourne beach!
