Long Hot Summer at Eastbourne Bandstand

bandstand
2 June 2010

An iconic seafront landmark is promising a dazzling end to half-term week with a Girls Aloud tribute concert at Eastbourne Bandstand.

This Friday, Girls R Aloud will take to the stage at the outdoor music venue to entertain visitors with popular hits from the band that made it big on reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals. Audiences can look forward to favourites such as Sound of the Underground, The Promise and Love Machine, offering families a packed evening to round off the half-term holiday.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The tribute season at Eastbourne Bandstand just gets better and better this year, promising a real variety of acts every Friday with music for all generations! With the spectacular 1812 Firework Concerts underway this week too, the Bandstand season is really hotting up and there’s still plenty to look forward to in 2010!”

While Girls R Aloud are set to rock the stage with popular noughties hits this Friday, next week audiences can step back to the 60s with Like a Rolling Stone performing a tribute to the English rock band.

With many tribute concerts already selling out this year and packing the Bandstand arena, audiences can book early on the Eastbourne Bandstand website and save £1 off on the door prices.

This weekend, the Bandstand’s Proms season gets underway too with East Grinstead Concert Band performing a traditional evening sing-along concert on Sunday night, while regular Bandstand performers Eastbourne Silver Band entertain on Sunday afternoon.

And as the Bandstand counts down the days to its 75th Birthday in 2010, with 28 July marking 75 years since the first ever concerts were performed and 5 August celebrating 75 years since it was officially opened, Bandstand fans are being invited to share their favourite memories of the venue over the next few weeks.

Visitors to Eastbourne Bandstand can send their favourite memories and cherished photographs to bandstand@eastbourne.gov.uk, with a selection of the best being posted on the Bandstand website.

Plus there is still time to enter the Bandstand’s 75th Birthday Competition too, with the closing date extended to 30 June 2010. Photographs and artwork can be sent to promotions@eastbourne.gov.uk with the best image and best illustration being turned into a commemorative postcard and winning a special Bandstand Goody Bag.

For more information on what’s on in 2010, to book tickets and to find out about the Bandstand’s Birthday visit the Bandstand website or telephone 01323 410611.
