New Play Ranger Service for Eastbourne

20 January 2010

Eastbourne is launching a brand new Play Ranger service next month with free play sessions for children being held in the town’s parks and gardens.

The Council has just announced a string of dates between February and May 2010 when the town’s Play Ranger will be holding play sessions for children of all ages. Taking place during school holidays, after school and at weekends, the Play Ranger will hold two hour play sessions, bringing along toys and games for children to play with and encouraging them to make the most of their social time.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Susan Morris said “We are very excited to launch these play ranger sessions, which are a completely new initiative for Eastbourne and something that we hope will be popular with both children and their parents. Children are welcome to come along at any time during the two hour sessions and join in with the games on offer. I’d like to encourage families to go along to one in their local community and enjoy a fun-packed couple of hours!”

The Play Ranger scheme operates under an open access policy, which allows children over eight to come and go as they please. Children under eight must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

The first session kicks off February half-term on Sunday 14 February at Princes Park from 2-4pm, with the week also seeing two further sessions at Shinewater Primary School and Willingdon Trees complimenting the school holiday activities already on offer.

Sessions will take place in all weather conditions and children are advised to arrive dressed ready to play, with either warm, waterproof clothing or hat and sunscreen depending on the weather.
