13 January 2010 New York, Utah, Florida, Australia, Belize, California and Eastbourne! The British south coast resort has been named on a top 10 list of worldwide celebrity-owned hotels by travel advice website, TripAdvisor.
The Big Sleep Hotel in Eastbourne is the only English hotel to have made the top 10 list and is ranked ninth amongst top global destinations such as Queensland, Australia and New York. Owned by Hollywood actor John Malkovich, The Big Sleep is listed alongside hotels backed by celebrities such as Robert de Niro, Gloria Estefan, Clint Eastwood, Olivia Newton-John and U2’s Bono and The Edge.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said “Wow, it is fantastic that Eastbourne has been placed on a list that includes some of the world’s most famous destinations and is brilliant promotion for the resort. It is very exciting to have a celebrity backed hotel in the town and The Big Sleep is just one of several new hotels to have opened in the past couple of years, definitely improving the choice of accommodation on offer in Eastbourne and attracting a new, younger market.”
The Big Sleep is a designer budget hotel located in prime position on Eastbourne seafront opposite the Wish Tower and offers funky accommodation in a choice of rooms, suites and family studios on a shoestring budget.
The TripAdvisor top 10 list states that “travellers admit that they were attracted to Hollywood heavyweight John Malkovich’s Big Sleep Hotel because of the budget-friendly prices, seaside location, and trendy reputation… One TripAdvisor traveller sums it up, ‘Cheap and comfortable with a wee bit of cool and trendy’.”
The news that Eastbourne has been listed in a top 10 global list comes at the start of a New Year when the staycation is predicted to continue during 2010 with significant numbers of holidaymakers opting for a getaway in the UK.
With the resort offering plenty more movie connections and enjoying a growing reputation as a film location having recently been used for the shooting of Brighton Rock and 2008’s Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging, Eastbourne is a real film set just waiting to be explored.
