Bandstand Tickets on Sale Three Months Early!

Eastbourne Bandstand - Toploader concert
13 January 2010

Fans of Eastbourne Bandstand are being encouraged to book early for their favourite concerts this year after public demand has led to tickets going on sale three months earlier than usual.

For the first time ever concert goers can pre-book tickets to all of the 2010 Bandstand concerts, five months before the summer concert season gets underway. Enjoying a record year in 2009 with more than 31,000 visitors and looking forward to a very special year in 2010 as the venue celebrates its 75th birthday, Eastbourne Bandstand has a bumper year of concerts coming up including all new tribute performances, brand new Tuesday evening kids’ concerts, and a one off special as part of the 2010 UK Bandstand Marathon.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said “What a year we have coming up at the Bandstand in 2010, perfect for celebrating the 75th birthday of our iconic seafront landmark. With this year’s concert programme being available to view online since December and boasting some brand new concerts as well as previous favourites, it’s no wonder there have been so many enquiries asking when tickets will be on sale. Get booking online to make sure you don’t miss your favourite in 2010!”

The summer concert programme gets underway on Sunday 2 May with regular Bandstand performers, Eastbourne Silver Band playing a traditional afternoon concert, quickly followed by the popular Friday night tribute season kicking off on Friday 7 May with Abba Fever, a concert that has sold out for the last two years running.

Also coming up in 2010 as the Bandstand continues to attract a new, younger audience are brand new Kids Summer Specials drawing on the success of the High Skool Musical themed concerts last year. Taking place every Tuesday during the summer holidays, families can book now and look forward to singing and dancing along to children’s favourites from Hanna Montana, High School Musical, Abba and more.

This year fans of the military concerts at Eastbourne Bandstand also have the chance to buy a new weekly ticket for the three military weeks taking place from 4-9 July, 25-30 July and 1-6 August. For just £30, weekly ticket holders can enjoy all nine concerts taking place during the military specials with The Band of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, The Band of the Guards Association and The Central Band of the Royal British Legion providing the music.

With the first Bandstand concerts held in July 1935, the Bandstand will celebrate its 75th birthday in 2010 and is looking forward to welcoming The Band of the Guards Association for its birthday concert on Wednesday 28 July, with a special 1812 firework special. And just a week later, the Central Band of the Royal British Legion will perform an afternoon concert on 5 August, 75 years since the Bandstand was officially opened.

To book early for any of the Bandstand concerts in 2010 that also include Big Band, Afternoon on Broadway, Rock n Roll, Gilbert and Sullivan and Sunday Night on the Proms visit the Bandstand website. Tickets will be on sale via telephone from the Seafront Office from 1 February on 01323 410611.

Visitors and residents are being invited to share their memories and photographs of the Bandstand over the years to celebrate 75 years, with some of the best to be displayed on the website and at the venue this summer.
