Discover Eastbourne at BoBI

Sussex Voyages
The Lighthouse close up

17 February 2010

Visitors to the country’s biggest ever exhibition of British Tourism will have the chance to discover the coastal resort of Eastbourne next month as the UK’s sunniest place takes a stand at Best of Britain and Ireland (BoBI).

Eastbourne will be exhibiting for the first time at the four day tourism showcase from 17-20 March at London’s Olympia, the centrepiece of British Tourism Week 2010.

The East Sussex resort has already been chosen to feature in a coastal themed trail being organised for BoBI. Visitors will be offered a taste of Life on the Edge when they stop off at Eastbourne’s stand with tales of the films and television shows that have been shot at Beachy Head and the South Downs, or those opting for the Fish n Trips trail can find out about the resort’s modern marina with the chance to win a trip courtesy of Sussex Voyages.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said “We are very excited to be exhibiting at BoBI this year and are working with our accommodation partners in Eastbourne to present an exciting stand to really show off the best of Eastbourne. This year’s BoBI is set to be the biggest yet with some 400 destinations, attractions and hotels taking part, and it presents an excellent opportunity for us to sell Eastbourne to domestic visitors, tour operators and the travel trade during what is set to be one of the biggest years for UK tourism.”

Following the year of the staycation that really took off in 2009, seaside destinations continue to be popular for the months ahead and are set to be one of the biggest winners of 2010 according to a Business Development Research Consultants survey.

The survey found that 38% of all UK holidays already booked for 2010 were seaside or beach holidays and being the country’s official sunniest place and boasting a unique position on the south coast, Eastbourne is positioning itself to make the most of the boom in seaside breaks.

Representatives from hotels and guesthouses in Eastbourne as well as members of the resort’s tourism team will be on hand at BoBI to talk to visitors about Eastbourne, with copies of the destination’s 2010 Holiday Guide available to pick up on the day.
