Record Year for Eastbourne TIC

Tourist Information Centre
8 December 2010

Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has enjoyed its busiest ever year in 2010 attracting a record number of visitors and selling over 45,000 Day Save train tickets for Southern Rail.

Already this year, the TIC has welcomed a record 267,000 visitors and the latest visitor numbers for November show another significant increase on previous years with over 18,000 people through the doors last month, 5,000 more visitors than the last three years.

Sales are continuing to increase year on year too with 45,000 people taking advantage of the discounted off peak train tickets since April, and nearly 6,000 people using the TIC to purchase the Brighton & Hove Buses Super Saver ticket since it was introduced earlier this year.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Tourist Information Centre has had a fantastic year in 2010 with more visitors than ever before passing through the doors! The significant number of users is testament to what an invaluable resource the Centre is, not only to visitors, but also to residents, who can use it for booking a variety of things including theatre tickets and coach trips.”

The Brighton & Hove Buses One Day Super Saver ticket offers return bus travel from Eastbourne to Brighton for just £3.30 and has proven a popular seller with those that commute on a daily basis as well as visitors looking for cheap ways to explore the nearby towns and cities.

The TIC has also been a hit with Eastbourne residents for the Day Save train tickets for Southern Rail, offering unlimited off peak day travel as far as London Victoria, Portsmouth and Ashford International. Costing just £10 per person, £20 for a group of three or four, and £1 for kids, they offer affordable travel for days out.

Postcards, the traditional holiday souvenir, are continuing to fly out the door of Eastbourne TIC too, with over 16,000 snaps of the UK’s sunniest resort winging their way around the globe since April this year.

Stocking a range of gifts and souvenirs, the TIC is hoping that December’s visitor numbers will show a similar increase and reflect the wider boom that the staycation effect is having on Eastbourne.
