15 December 2010 Entries are now open for the Eastbourne Half Marathon 2011 with the event organisers calling for more entrants than ever before.
Raising over £75,000 for local charities in 2010, the Eastbourne Half Marathon is a popular course regularly attracting over 1,000 entrants who cover a 13-mile course through the town’s parks, Sovereign Harbour Marina and seafront.
Taking place on Sunday 6 March 2011, keen athletes, joggers and walkers can sign up now, with the event offering a great way to kickstart a healthy New Year’s resolution.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Eastbourne Half Marathon is always a popular event with hundreds of people taking part to raise money for some worthy local causes. Whether it’s a group of friends taking on a challenge, work colleagues competing, or athletes looking to set a new personal record, the course offers a great way to keep fit and a real sense of personal achievement.
“With the course passing through Sovereign Harbour and along the seafront, it also makes great viewing for spectators and I hope that residents and visitors get the date in their diaries now to come along and give the entrants some much needed support next March.”
The course promises entrants a largely flat course, with a hill between two to three miles, as well as several tight turns to navigate around, three pedestrian swing bridges to cross, and a small gravel slope.
With the event attracting one family to take part last year, all the way from the Lake District, the organisers are hoping that this year’s field of runners will include entrants from even further afield.
Reid+Dean are sponsoring the Eastbourne Half Marathon in 2011 and are already appealing for volunteer stewards and marshals to come forward and help on the day, with the event starting and finishing in Princes Park.
Mike Reid adds “The sponsorship monies are distributed to a wide range of causes, clubs and organisations, including schools, guides, scouts, swimming, boxing, rowing, football and rugby clubs etc and we especially welcome them as entrants, or to run the refreshment stations which they all thoroughly enjoy.”
