As Sussex slowly returns to a degree of normality, Sussex Police has issued a warning to drivers and pedestrians who are taking to the roads and streets to look out for each other.
Ch Supt Paul Morrison, head of Operations, said: "With pavements and verges being either still deep in snow or very icy, pedestrians are taking to the sides of the roads and drivers should be aware that they are likely to be there and also that they might slip or move suddenly into their path.
"However, the onus isn't only on drivers. Our patrols out and about last night reported a number of people walking in the roads in dark clothing, making them very difficult to see. If you are out walking, especially after dark, try and wear something that will show up and ideally, high visibility with some form of reflective material."
Main routes throughout Sussex are now passable with care, but side roads and untreated roads are still potentially treacherous and police are still warning drivers to consider the need for their journey and to take extreme care if they are travelling. Low temperatures, combined with a forecast for rain, sleet and snow on Friday (December 3) night are likely to see driving conditions deteriorating again after dusk.
Ch Supt Morrison added: "There's a huge amount of common sense being shown by drivers in Sussex who undoubtedly learned a lot about winter driving last year, but it's important that this is maintained - there's still a lot of this winter to go yet!"
