On a cold and wet Sunday afternoon a number of residents and friends from the OldTownCommunityChurch, were digging up the grass verges in Central Avenue, OldTown. But this was no random act of vandalism.
Earlier in the year a group of residents came up with the idea to plant spring bulbs to brighten up their community. They approached Eastbourne Borough Council who helped with the permission that was required from ESCC and in addition, the Borough matched the residents' contribution bulb for bulb.
A total of 1600 bulbs were planted and the Community are looking forward to a mixture of daffodils and crocuses brightening up Central Avenue next spring.
Cllr Wallis, Lead Cabinet Member for the Environment said, "This was a fantastic opportunity for EBC to work closely with members of the community to help deliver a project that will enhance the environment, I hope this initiative will encourage other residents and communities to come forward with similar ideas."
