17 August 2010 A brand new community centre will be officially opened by the Mayor of Eastbourne at 10am on Saturday 21 August 2010. The centre in Wartling Road already has a number of users ready to move in.
Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Carolyn Heaps says, “It’s lovely to see a new community centre opening in the heart of a new development – a much needed resource for everyone to use and help promote a real feeling of community.”
The new centre has a simple lay out with a hall, kitchen and toilets and onsite car park and was built as a condition of the planning permission for the estate.
Little Treasures nursery will be at the opening as one of the first regular users of the centre, they have been in temporary accommodation since the old building at the coach and lorry park closed. Other planned users will also be at the opening. They include Slimming World, Guiding Lite, Sama kid’s karate and the Christ Apostolic Church.
The building also received funding for a new public artwork on the outside and the selected artist will be on hand to meet potential users and will take photos of those that like the idea of being featured as silhouettes within the artwork.
