11 August 2010 The Mayor of Eastbourne will be leading the clean up after the world’s biggest free seafront airshow on Monday morning joining SITA for a 6.30am start.
Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, Airbourne is the biggest event in the Eastbourne calendar with over 130 staff employed during the event and a dedicated team of SITA staff who restore Eastbourne’s glorious seafront after the event.
This year, the Worshipful Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Carolyn Heaps will be on the beaches first thing Monday morning to start the beach litter pick.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Carolyn Heaps said “Airbourne is a fantastic event for Eastbourne bringing thousands of people into the town and boosting the local economy as visitors spend while they are here. Our waste contractor SITA do a brilliant job in clearing up quickly after the event to ensure our seafront is immaculate for visitors and I’m pleased to be joining them to help the mammoth task they face after a very busy four days in Eastbourne!”
SITA UK Ltd are the Council’s waste contractor and collect rubbish and recycling in Eastbourne. Airbourne visitors are being encouraged to help reduce the amount of waste created during the event by using the recycling bins along the seafront, with traders also asked to recycle their cardboard in the dedicated collection points.
Starting this Thursday 12 August, Airbourne promises four thrilling days of flying, arena displays, evening concerts and entertainment and a grand firework finale, with attractions and trade stands stretching from the Pier to the Western Lawns.
With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to descend on the town and witness the dazzling firework displays from Eastbourne’s beaches, the Mayor will be on hand to help with the clear up after the event but wants to encourage visitors to take their rubbish with them and use the litter bins provided.
