Eastbourne Borough Council will be using popular social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to update residents on how the General Election count in Eastbourne is progressing.

Residents will be able to follow EBC online to get up to date news from the election count in Eastbourne on Thursday 6 May as the Council try to engage with all voters across the Borough.

Key timings will be announced on a feed simultaneously through Twitter and Facebook including the open and close of polling stations, when the first ballot box is received back, the turnout and the final result.

With Twitter followers and Facebook fans able to choose to receive the latest information from these sites in a variety of ways, including direct to their mobile phones or straight to their inbox, Eastbourne Borough Council hope to be able to engage with the wider community throughout the election process.

An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson said “We are very excited to be using these social networking sites for the first time this year to engage with our electorate during the General Election and give them regular updates throughout the night. It is a great way for us to update residents in a format that they are familiar with and we hope that as many residents as possible will follow EBC online and choose to receive the latest news in this way.”
