Access All Areas - Parkour
23 September 2009
Access All Areas, the South East’s biggest youth arts festival, is coming to Towner for one day only, with a programme of free events created by and for young people. Part of a series of activities taking place across the county, this hotly anticipated taster day will take place on Saturday 26 September, and will include Parkour performances and workshops, where young people can learn the fundamentals and philosophy of this explosive new art form.
Highlights of the all-day event, which will take over Towner’s spacious ground floor Exhibition Halls, include:
-
Parkour (Free running) demonstrations and workshops by Eastbourne’s very own Urban Shadows, developed in collaboration with the nationally renowned Parkour group Urban Playground.
-
Re-duce, Re-use, Re-cycle: an exciting opportunity to design, create and showcase ethical fashion accessories. Young people are invited to come along and customise old clothes and get creative with recycled materials and fabrics. There will be a catwalk opportunity at the end of the day when participants will be able to showcase their creations.
-
Pimp My Ride: three cars, revamped into works of art by young people from Towner’s award-winning partnership with East Sussex Youth Offending Team and street artists from CanControl, will be exhibited and used in a Parkour performance.
-
Backdrop for Life: this exhibition comprises a series of painted backdrops, created by young people from the Archery Youth Centre, who worked alongside artist Rob Walker to interpret their visions of Eastbourne past, present and future. Young people are invited to add their own visions to the scenes on display.
-
Digital media workshops, beatbox demonstrations and workshops, create a film soundtrack and much more…
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris, said, “We are thrilled to be part of this year’s Access All Areas festival, and the new Towner is a fantastic space for such an event – thanks to our new building, we can now provide even more accessible and innovative opportunities as part of our award-winning work with young people. We are proud to be able to showcase and encourage the exceptional talent that exists among our local young people, whilst providing an inspiring opportunity for many more to get creative and get involved.”
