Top Location Scouts Tour Eastbourne

10 March 2009

10 Film and TV Location Managers took a whistle-stop tour of Eastbourne last week as the town’s Film Liaison Office showcased the resort to attract future filming projects.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s Film Liaison Office invited members of the Guild of Location Managers on a 48-hour familiarisation trip to Eastbourne to show off the town’s unique filming locations.

The resort’s Film Office promotes Eastbourne as a location for movie and television productions and with a history of major films being shot here, the resort is hoping that the trip will incite even more interest from those that scout locations for a range of top productions.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “This was a brilliant opportunity for us to show what a fantastic location Eastbourne makes. We are always ready to welcome filming projects in the town and will go out of our way to accommodate film and TV crews. From the beauty of the South Downs to our splendid Victorian promenade, Eastbourne offers a range of unique locations and to have major productions filmed here, really does put the resort on the map.”

The Location Managers enjoyed a packed itinerary taking in everything from the prestigious Sovereign Harbour development, one of Eastbourne’s best kept secrets, to the Napoleonic Redoubt Fortress, seafront Bandstand, and Cloisters corridor at Eastbourne College.

Stopping off at various Eastbourne hotels, the Location Managers were shown some of Eastbourne’s finest and more unique selling points including the Edwardian lift at the Chatsworth Hotel, the revolving doors at the Hydro as featured in Foyles War, and the extensive redevelopment of the Cavendish Hotel to bring it back to its 4-star glory.

The visitors also enjoyed a drive over the South Downs taking in the miles of open countryside without a pylon or vehicle in sight. Featuring in a range of movies including James Bond, Pearl Harbour and Harry Potter; Beachy Head and the surrounding area proves popular with production crews.

With some of the Location Managers on the trip currently working on major dramas and shows for national television companies and previously having worked on top films including The Golden Compass and V for Vendetta; Eastbourne Film Liaison Office hope to see many faces returning soon to use the town as a backdrop.
