You Deserve It! Campaign Launch
16 September 2008
Eastbourne Borough Council has been awarded nearly £3 million of government funding to enable vulnerable residents to improve and repair their homes - including insulation options, improve safety, and help undertake minor/major repairs – all available for privately owned or rented homes as part of its Private Housing Renewal Policy.

Last week the Government announced its own plans to help people over 70-years-old by providing free insulation, but here in Eastbourne the Council is going further than that through this funding and is helping anyone over 60, disabled residents and families on benefits with children under 16 by providing free insulation to their properties thus helping to fight rising fuel costs as well as helping make Eastbourne a carbon free town.

The great new ‘You Deserve It!’ campaign is being launched this week with the help of six Eastbourne residents who have already received assistance from the Council. They want to show others how the offer of grants and loans has been beneficial to them, as well as helping encourage others to apply.

Mr and Mrs Kilshaw believe their interest-free loan for their roof, kitchen and bathroom was worth its weight in gold. They will unveil a giant poster of themselves at a bus stop in Lottbridge Drive, Hampden Park, at 3pm on Tuesday September 16. It’s the first in a series of adverts around the town to inform homeowners, private landlords and tenants that they might well be entitled to a share of this money to improve and repair their homes.

Council Leader David Tutt and Councillor Margaret Bannister, Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet spokesperson for Housing, Health and Community Services, will attend the unveiling of the bus stop advert to promote the availability of this Private Housing Renewal Assistance.

Councillor Bannister said, “I am delighted that the Council was successful in receiving these Government funds, to enable us to assist residents throughout the town with carrying out essential improvements and repairs to their properties”.

This press release was prepared and issued in partnership with PRG Publicity.
