Taste of Las Vegas in Eastbourne

6 October 2008
Eastbourne enjoyed the glitz, tricks and bright lights of Las Vegas last week as the 72nd International Brotherhood of Magicians Convention graced the Devonshire Park Centre with a thumbs up from top theatre magazine, The Stage.

Some of the world’s top Magicians descended on Eastbourne to take part in the four day conference with more magic stars travelling all the way from Las Vegas than ever before. Joined by illusionists, comedians, jugglers and Royal Variety performers from around the world, including Australia, Switzerland and Spain, the convention held at Devonshire Park for the 14th year was even a hit with the kids and featured on CBBC’s Newsround on Friday.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “The Magicians conference was very exciting for Eastbourne and brought a real sense of entertainment to the whole town. Everyone loves a bit of magic and to have some of the world’s top magicians in town really put Eastbourne up there with the best and the gala show was spectacular.”

Newsround press packer, Leah Mae, featured on Friday’s show after spending time at the Eastbourne convention and learning new tricks. With top magicians of all ages taking part and sharing their secrets, the event has become one of the biggest of its kind in the world.

A favourite in the Eastbourne conference calendar, the Magicians’ conference was held at the town’s Devonshire Park Centre with professionals and amateurs heading to the convention to improve their magical skills.

As well as performing and lecturing in front of their peers, exhibiting some of the newest props in the trade, and revealing the secrets behind impressive illusions, the Magicians also dazzled in two very special theatre shows where they definitely didn’t share their secrets with the audience!

Theatre goers packed into Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre on Saturday evening to watch top Las Vegas magicians including Jon Armstrong, Jason England and Kalin and Jinger wow the crowds with their quick card fingers and spectacular illusions.

Hot on the heels of the Magicians Convention, Eastbourne Conference Bureau are heading into a busy autumn season and look forward to welcoming the International Brotherhood of Magicians back in 2010.
