The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Greg Szanto, has accepted an invitation from the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra to become one of its patrons. He will join Sir John Chatfield and Professor John York.
The orchestra was founded in 1979 and includes a wealth of musical talent. It performs several concerts a year, including a choral concert in Chichester Cathedral and a concert featuring the winner of the orchestra’s Young Soloist Competition.
The most recent event was the ‘Music from the Movies Concert’ at the Congress Theatre on 5 October which also provided a splendid finale for the Victorian Festival. The concert included a dazzling performance by John York of Tchaikowsky’s first piano concerto.
Acknowledging the invitation, Greg Szanto said, “I am honoured to be associated with an orchestra which has contributed so much to the cultural heritage of Eastbourne and am looking forward to supporting their work in the future.”
