6 October 2008 Get set for a frightfully packed Halloween week in Eastbourne with the chance to roam Beachy Head for ghostly tales, make balloons scream at Herstmonceux, and explore the chilling tunnels at the Redoubt Fortress.
Families are in for a spook-tacular Halloween half-term in Eastbourne from Saturday 25 October to Sunday 2 November, as the whole town gets into the spooky spirit. The resort’s famous Beachy Head plays host to a Gory Ghost Walk midweek as families roam the South Downs listening to countless tales of creepy sightings, and for even more stories of drummer boys, floating female figures and marching armies join the ghost tour of Pevensey Castle dating back to 1066.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “Halloween is a really fun time of year for Eastbourne with plenty going on throughout the town to keep the whole family busy. From special Halloween events at attractions in and around the town, to the beautiful countryside and forests on our doorsteps, there’s no excuse for not getting out and about this autumn.”
Eastbourne’s own ‘Most Haunted’ Michelham Priory offers a whole week of Halloween fun, with tours of the house, scary stories from minstrel and storyteller, Rob Parkinson, and the chance to make up horror stories of your own with a spooky story writing workshop.
The Redoubt Fortress on Eastbourne seafront is swarming with spooky goings on as the Haunted Halloween Trail gets underway. As ghosts of the Redoubt’s past stir, visitors must put their nerves aside to follow and feel the clues around the museum with a lucky dip prize for all participants.
The little ones will love Boo’s Haunted Cottage at Drusilla’s Zoo, which opens its doors again this year with Winifred the Witch waiting to give visitors a fright. Delve into the creepy corridors and beware of supernatural surprises waiting to jump out!
Those that want to get really hands-on can try their hand at the Wicked Wizard’s Workshop at Herstmonceux’s Observatory Science Centre and learn how to make balloons scream and bats fly.
While families wanting to make the most of the outdoors and mild autumn weather this half-term, can head to Wilderness Wood just outside Eastbourne. Visitors can have a go at apple bobbing as the Intrepid Theatre Company host chilling challenges in the deep dark wood.
There’s plenty more going on in Eastbourne if tales of ghosts, wizards, witches and broomsticks sound too creepy. The seventh Beachy Head Marathon kicks the week off on Saturday 25 October as 1,700 runners from across the globe take on the cross-country challenge, plus enjoy the town’s miniature railway, indoor wave pool, ten pin bowling, Sovereign Harbour marina, and cinema.
