Plastic Cups
Councillor Morris and Councillor Wallis recycling their plastic cups

26 November 2008

In a move to further minimise waste and increase recycling from its offices, Eastbourne Borough Council has introduced collections of all vending machine and water cooler cups. This new material has been added to the existing collections of cardboard, paper, tins and cans and plastic bottles.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for the Environment Councillor Steve Wallis says, “Eastbourne Borough Council is very keen to lead by example and recycle as much as it can. This step forward demonstrates our commitment and our desire to either reduce or recycle our waste.”

It not only makes environmental sense for Eastbourne Borough Council to recycle but financial sense too. With landfill tax increasing, considerable savings can be made by diverting all recyclable materials from the waste stream.

Sovereign Ward Councillor Susan Morris, whose initiative it was to introduce plastic cup recycling added; “The plastic cups collected from Council offices can become anything from a pencil to a new cup. It’s another great example of the benefits and possibilities of recycling.”
