15 May 2008 More than 26,000 people have passed through the doors of Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre since April this year with an average 60 Southern Rail Daysave train tickets sold each day.
With unlimited off-peak day travel on the Southern Rail network costing just £10 per adult or £20 for a group of four; more than 2,000 people have taken advantage of the excellent savings available in just over a month. With the Tourist Information Centre the only agent offering this service in Eastbourne, the town’s one stop information shop has seen a huge boost in sales for the exclusive ticket covering travel as far as Ashford, Portsmouth, and London Victoria.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “Sales in the Tourist Information Centre at the beginning of this financial year are very promising and indicate what an excellent and invaluable service the staff provide. As well as handing out hundreds of leaflets everyday and offering information about what’s what in Eastbourne, residents and visitors can get train tickets, coach travel, and make theatre bookings all over the counter.”
Within the last year the Tourist Information Centre have also become agents for Flagship coaches and National Express and offer the facility to book coach excursions and day trips, from days out across the channel to a ride along the Sussex coast to Rye. Since these services were first offered, over 250 bookings have been made, all adding to the commission that the Tourist Information Centre receives as a result.
The staggering statistics continue through to the sale of theatre tickets too with almost £30,000 of tickets sold to Eastbourne shows since 1 April 2008. Save phoning or travelling to the Box Office and simply pop into the Tourist Information Centre to plan a trip to the theatre and choose seats for the latest shows at The Congress, Devonshire Park, Winter Gardens, Hippodrome and The Underground Theatre.
With the Tourist Information Centre also handing out the latest news and leaflets on all of Eastbourne’s events, the number of customers through the doors is expected to rise as the weather continues to warm up.
