Further to a report to Cabinet on the 28 May the Council will extend its current fortnightly ‘green box’ boundary recycling collection service to include plastic bottles.

The new service is planned to be introduced in three phases between July and September by SITA, the Council’s refuse collection contractor, and will enable residents to put out their glass bottles, newspaper and magazines, cans, textiles and types 1 and 2 plastic bottles for fortnightly collection.

Councillor Troy Tester, responsible for special projects says “This is a major step forward in our efforts to encourage residents to recycle more.  There is no excuse now for households not to recycle!”

“This really is excellent news and shows that we do listen to residents at their door-steps; and there is much more good news to come with the introduction of the free green garden waste collection service early in 2009.”
