Places for People housing and regeneration company were awarded £230,000 by the Lottery Fund to improve open areas within the Kingsmere Estate earlier this year.
The Council agreed at its Cabinet meeting on the 28th May to work with Places for People and other members of Kingsmere Neighbourhood Partnership to develop proposals in close conjunction with the local community over the next 12 months.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Health and Community Services Councillor Margaret Bannister says, “This is a great opportunity to make a real difference to the facilities on the Kingsmere estate. The key to this project will be working with residents. This will help ensure that future plans are based on the community’s ideas and aspirations for their area.”
The scheme will involve extensive consultation with residents of the estate and key partners for the area before any final plans for the development are drawn up.
Dave Lewis from Places for People says, “We are just so pleased that we have been able to provide what the local community asked for and feel sure that it will help Kingsmere with it’s ambition to become a great place to live.”
Sovereign Ward Councillor Margaret Salsbury says, “This an exciting project for Kingsmere residents. The improvements to the open spaces are much needed. Kingsmere has a strong and growing Resident Association that have been working very hard over the last two years, setting up clubs and holding events to enhance their community life. I have been supporting this group and know they are looking forward to consulting with all the residents on Kingsmere on the improvements they wish to see. Myself, Cllr Michael Bloom and Cllr Susan Morris look forward to working with the partners on this project and supporting the residents of this community.”
