Economic Development Officers at Eastbourne Borough Council have been working behind the scenes to develop a long term plan for Terminus Road. The Terminus Road Improvement Group work covers the entire stretch of the road from the railway station to the seafront. In recent months the group have been working on the stretch between Seaside Road and the Seafront.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Economy Councillor Steve Wallis says, “We want this section of the road to have a unique vibrant charm. Officers are working with property owners to help get tenants that are going to stay for longer rather than just someone who will pay the rent.”
The owner of Victoria Mansions, on the west side of the street which covers almost 20 retail properties has been working closely with the Council Officers, to make the empty properties more attractive while waiting for a tenant.
Ideas are in the pipeline for signs on the seafront directing people into the town centre along Terminus Road and the same sign from the town centre directing people to the seafront, along what is the spinal route from the town to the seafront.
Lamppost banners will be erected if agreement can be obtained with County Council and officers are now also working with Commercial estate agents in the area and will be looking to extend the group to include local business owners.
