Not even the rain could keep new audiences away at Eastbourne Bandstand last week as Queen Tribute, Mercury became the first sell-out concert of 2008.
Nearly 1,400 turned out for the third Friday Night Tribute concert of the season, with every deckchair full as audiences sung along to Queen classics including I Want to Break Free, Bohemian Rhapsody and Don’t Stop Me Now. Following on from the success of the Beatles and Abba tribute nights earlier this month, the audience numbers hit an all time high on Friday, with Bandstand fans in for a real treat over the coming weeks as sounds of the Bee Gees and Dolly Parton get set to grace the historic entertainment venue.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said “What a fantastic start to the Bandstand season! Friday was a really entertaining evening with audiences on their feet dancing along to some British classics. Despite a few drops of rain, nothing stopped audiences coming through the doors at Eastbourne Bandstand, with everybody keen to make the most of the live entertainment at this unique seafront venue. Eastbourne Bandstand is a rare find and I’m sure the variety of concerts coming up over the summer will ensure even more sell out successes.”
This Friday, Stayin’ Alive, fill the stage at Eastbourne Bandstand with music from the ever popular Bee Gees. Status Quo, George Michael & Wham, and the Spice Girls are also coming up later this summer and audiences are being encouraged to book their tickets early to guarantee seats for dancing and singing along.
Bandstand entertainment continues all week long too, with Rock ‘n’ Roll concerts, Choral singers, and 1812 Firework Nights providing spectacular concerts every evening.
Concert goers and Bandstand fans can sign up to become a Friend of Eastbourne Bandstand for FREE and in return will receive regular updates on the concert programme, free prize draws, plus discounts to all performances. With a growing database of over 1,500 members, Eastbourne Bandstand is keen for new audiences to join and give their feedback to shape the future of the venue and improve its concert programme.
