Sgt Julian Williams said "I am very pleased with the management of Terminus Road, McDonalds. They are setting an excellent example for local businesses in dealing with anti social behaviour in and around their premises. Prior to the re-build of their shop front, youths were congregating in large numbers outside their premises using the seating area at the front. This lead to anti social behaviour by a number of these youths by getting involved in fights and abusive behaviour. The re-designed shop front is making the front of McDonalds less desirable for youths to congregate. Officers were spending a lot of time dealing with the problems outside McDonalds which have now been reduced. McDonalds joining the already successful EBCG shopwatch and nightwatch schemes, along with many other local businesses will assist in making Eastbourne an uncomfortable place for criminals and persons intent on causing disorder to operate in.
I am pleased that they are supporting this partnership scheme. Their sponsoring of another radio for the use by my officers to link in with the scheme will assist in greater communication between shop and night watch with the Police.
We are currently looking at other areas within the town centre to design out anti-social behaviour along with police patrols to deal with offences as they happen. Eastbourne's town centre is generally a safe place to be"
