‘What a useful event, I learned a lot today’ and ‘excellent and informative’ were just two of the comments used to describe the first ever Eastbourne workshop of ‘Scooterbility’. Opened by His Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Greg Szanto, the workshop was organised by members of the Disability Involvement Group in partnership with a number of organisations in and around the town.
Chair of the DIG, Monica Elsen said “I am so pleased with how our first workshop went today. The support given to the DIG and the enthusiasm shown for this event is overwhelming, and very much appreciated by us. We are now looking forward to our future workshops in Willingdon Trees Community Centre and returning to the Devonshire Halls. If anyone wants to try a Scooter come along as there are plenty to have a go on.”
The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service kindly donated £250 to the DIG to support the workshops and a cheque was presented to members of the DIG at the first Scooterbility workshop by John Drinkwater, Eastbourne Borough Commander.
The workshops are also supported by AJ Mobility, Eastbourne Shopmobility, Southern Mobility Centre and Weald Mobility Care Centre who all provided a range of Scooters, Sussex Police, Eastbourne Borough Council who provide the venues free of charge and the MS Society who provide transport for the workshops.
The next workshops are scheduled for Tuesday 22 July, 2.30pm at Willingdon Trees Community Centre; Tuesday 26 August, 10.30am at Devonshire Halls, back of Winter Garden; and final workshop Friday 26 September, 2.30pm at Willingdon Trees Community Centre.
