Mayor Boosts Local Charities

Former Mayor Presents Cheques
15 July 2008

Former Mayor, Councillor Mary Pooley, is pleased to announce that during her Mayoral year she raised a grand total of £10,092.88 for her chosen local charities, Open Door and People Matter.

A presentation of the money will take place in the Mayor’s Parlour on Tuesday 22 July at 4pm, where each of the charities will receive a cheque for £5,046.44.  Fundraising events including the Mayor’s Charity Ball which was held in March and the concert given by the Band of the Irish Guards at the Congress Theatre where St Agnes Parish Community made a significant effort to raise donations, have contributed to the sum raised.

Former Mayor, Councillor Mary Pooley says; “Both Open Door and People Matter carry out valuable work in the local community and really make a difference to those they help. I would like to thank all those all those who have donated money to the fund and participated in the events. I know that everyone’s efforts have been greatly appreciated and I am pleased to present the money raised to help Open Door and People Matter achieve their objectives”.

Attending the presentation will be Judith Cousin, Chief Executive of Impact-Initiatives for Open Door, and John Purkiss for People Matter.
