The first week of the plastic bottle kerbside collection service has been a great success! 68 large sacks of plastic bottles weighing on average 10kg per sack were collected from the Meads and Old Town areas where the scheme was first introduced. Almost a tonne of plastic bottles were sent for recycling in the first week alone. This is a very impressive start considering it takes on average 20,000 plastic bottles to make up a tonne!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Special Projects Councillor Troy Tester says, “The successful first week of the plastic bottles kerbside collection service is great news for Eastbourne. The amount collected clearly shows how dedicated residents are to recycling and we hope that this trend will continue and increase into the future.
Eastbourne Borough Council is committed to improving the recycling rates in Eastbourne, and having plastic bottles collected from kerbside is another step in achieving our goals.”
The new service will be phased in across the town throughout July, August and September so look out for it beginning in your area soon! If you would like further information then contact the Waste Awareness Team on (01323) 415229 or visit our recycling website.
