Members of the British Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps who are resident in Eastbourne are invited to an Afternoon Tea Reception with the Mayor of Eastbourne on Wednesday 03 September at 3pm at the Town Hall in the Mayor’s Parlour.
The Mayor is hosting the Afternoon Tea Reception in recognition of the tremendous work of women who served in the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps during the First and Second World Wars. Surviving members of the of the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps have been presented with a specially designed badge to commemorate their service through a new scheme acknowledging the country’s gratitude to their efforts. The badge features a gold wheat sheaf on a white background surrounded by a circlet of pine branches and pine cones to incorporate the work of both the Women’s Land army and Timber Corps.
The Worshipful Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Greg Szanto says “It is important that the work and contribution of the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps to the War efforts are recognised. I am pleased to host an afternoon where members can exchange stories and be shown how grateful we are for their valuable work. I hope that all those who are local to Eastbourne will get in touch an attend the afternoon reception.”
All local residents who served in the Womens Land Army and Timber Corps are invited to attend the Afternnon Tea Reception and asked to contact Nicola Metcalfe on 01323 415020 to accept their invitation. The Mayor is calling for all local residents who were part of this great effort to get in touch and confirm their attendence.
