Eastbourne Borough Council will celebrate its sporting talent and its longstanding association with tennis over two weekends on Sunday 24 and 31 August.
As the Olympic Games draw to a close in Beijing all corners of the UK will be linked by ceremonies welcoming the arrival of the Games to London and the UK. The Olympic Committee and the Local Government Association have invited Eastbourne and other Local Authorities across England and Wales to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Games in the UK by flying the specially commissioned 2012 Olympic flag.
Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Greg Szanto says, “It is excellent to see Eastbourne and the rest of the country celebrating this significant date when the Olympics are handed over from China to the UK. The sporting events taking place will highlight the importance sport has in the town and in promoting a healthy life.”
Located at Eastbourne Sports Park on Sunday 24 August young people from the Tennis Development Centre will demonstrate their mini tennis aptitude and will watch alongside the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Greg Szanto, local sporting organisations and Councillors as the Olympic flag is hoisted at 14:30.
