The Sovereign Harbour Residents Association has handed a petition into Eastbourne Borough Council calling for the creation of a parish council for Sovereign Harbour. It was handed in at the Town Hall on Monday 31 March 2008.
Council officers will now check the petition and the planned area for the proposed new parish. The law requires a minimum of 10% of local electors in Sovereign Harbour to sign the petition for it to be valid.
Once the validity of the petition is confirmed the Council will consider what consultations they will carry out with Sovereign Harbour residents and other interested parties such as local businesses and resident groups.
In due course the Council will consider the outcome of the consultations and reach a decision as to whether the petitioners’ request will be granted. The Council is obliged to take account of all representations received.
