The first meeting of the Design Review Panel took place this month.
As part of the Council commitment to see high quality design in the town we have established a Design Review Panel. Large sensitive schemes will go before The Panel which contains a selection of architects who will advise the Council on the quality of the scheme being presented.
The findings of The Panel will be used for further negotiation with the applicant, if necessary, and the results included in the report to the Planning Committee who will take them into consideration during their debate on the scheme.
Councillor Rebecca Madell, Design Champion for Eastbourne said “the Design Review Panel is a group of architects which the Council can call upon to obtain impartial expert advice on the quality of a scheme’s design. It is important that Members of the Planning Committee have as much expert advice as possible to help them make the right decision for the future development of the town.
I want to add new development that builds on the superb quality of the existing legacy that has been left us. The best developments are inspiring and can lift the spirits of its community. I want this generation to leave behind it’s own examples of inspiring architecture.”
